Listowel
Under the Local Government Reform Act 2014, each County Council, had to put in place a system of municipal districts based on electoral areas. Kerry County Council has five Municipal Districts. Tralee, Killarney, Listowel, Kenmare and Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne. The Local Authority Members (County Councillors) elected from these municipal districts take certain decisions in relation to the districts.

The senior citizens of the Abbeydorney area also benefit greatly from the project as the Active Retired Faciliator organised social evenings for them on a fortnightly basis. The schemes also provides administration support to the Shannow FRC. Our researcher is sourcing local history to preserve it for future generations. The Community Laundry provides a low cost laundry service to the local community. The Environmental Workers maintain our garden beds, grass areas leading into the village and within the village park and assist within the maintenance and upkeep of the wildlife ducks area. As we are entering the Tidy Towns competition this year they ensure the village is clear of litter and access roads and presentable to the public. |

During that project, which was decided on in early November, we raised our own funds directly and had support of from Kerry County Council which was vital. We now have all our own tree lighting of over, our own professional tree bases built, some small street pole lighting , promotional signage and an active local committee made up of all local organisations, mainly due to the support received from the council and the success of own efforts. We had a very successful lighting ceremony with over 200 people attending with local choirs and local schools. We now want to build on this plus put up professional larger street pole lighting which will enhance the village and add to our very successful first year. |

Its members have achieved recognition and won awards at both National and International level.The club has won 13 national championship titles and one European silver medal since the club was established, and we are looking forward to continuing our success story in the years agead. Over the years the Club has hosted several Tournaments. County and Munster Championships. In 2004 the Club hosted the Four Nation Cadets Championships, and in 2005 the Irish Multinations Senior Tournament and in 2008 Ireland versus Russia (Seniors). The Cashen Vale Boxing Club was the recipient of an Award in the Physical activity categorie at the Kerry Community Awards Banquet in Killarney in 2009.And in 2010 the club won 4 National titles....a record for any club in Kerry in the same season. Many parishioners would strongly agree that the centre has enhanced good neighborliness and has provided a unique place for all to come together. There is a broad spectrum of age groups benefiting from the centre. It is used for birthday parties, Halloween Hooleys, sports clubs, meetings, exercise classes, craft fairs, cards, support groups, to mention just a few. Every Christmas there is a wonderful dinner party for the senior citizens. The spacious hall is transformed into a winter wonderland filled with music, song and laughter. Since 2006 the Community Care Centre has injected huge life into our parish. There is a sense of pride and appreciation for this multipurpose hall. |

It was set up in Sept 2012 by Eo...n O’Mahony and the soccer academy has grown steadily over the years. He felt there was a need to provide a Soccer Academy in the Ballybunion and Lisselton areas. Last September a formal committee structure was put in place in order to help the academy to grow and develop. Since September 2015 there has been a huge growth in numbers attending the academy. There are coaching sessions on a weekly basis provided to children from the ages of 5 up to 12 years of age. There are over 80 children attending the academy on a regular basis. The coaching sessions are delivered by coaches who are Garda Vetted and have completed the required coaching courses. The academy also organises regular matches for all age groups from U7 up to U12. The numbers have been so strong that at U12 the academy has a team competing in the Kerry School Boys Division 3 League. The aims of the soccer academy are to provide an outlet for children who live in the locality to get physical exercise on a regular basis in a safe and friendly environment. It gives these kids an opportunity to learn new skills, gain new friendships and to get experience of playing for a team. These are all important as it will enable the child to develop and grow in a balanced manner. |

Tarbert Bridewell was built in the 1800's and fell into serious disrepair. Tarbert Bridewell Group was set up to purchase and restore the building. It is a Listed Building and we continue to preserve the fabric of the building & exhibition. We oversee the daily operation of the museum and promote the educational & historical value of the building. Tarbert Bridewell is owned by the community and a Board of Trustees hold it trust for the people of Tarbert. |

We want to take our efforts beyond the town and continue similar work as the Tidy Towns volunteers and help to brighten and improve the countryside drive experience by ensuring singposts are clean and visible and bridges are fully tidied by cutting back growth , powerwashing the stone work , sandind and painting ironwork where practical . Examples of bridges in our interest are Gale Bridge on Ballybunion Road , Smearla bridge on Listowel to Duagh road . An example of bridge tidy work we would like to emminate is Lyreacrompane bridge which has been tidied , cleaned and painted . As our base is Listowel Hire Centre , currently we have sufficient equipment to carry out the work . |

The project is based in Barna, an organic farm and wildlife sanctuary, one mile from the famous Ballybunion surf beach on the Wild Atlantic Way. The house and lands are steeped in history, song and tradition and both Rena’s mother and grandmother were born here. The Barna Way is about a holistic way of being, living in harmony and connection with all other life on earth. It is about creating an inclusive and welcoming space for humans and other species, in all our diversity. As well as being an organic farm and wildlife sanctuary, the project is also has a ‘Healing Herb Garden’ and ‘Peace Path’ through native woodland. The North Kerry GIY (Grow It Yourself) Group is based in Barna and has over 30 active members who visit each other’s farms/gardens monthly during the growing season. Rena is collaborating with Billy Jo O’Connor from Leagh Farm to host the very successful ‘Ballybunion Community Market’ at Kilcooly’s Country House every Saturday morning in July and August. The Barna Way works with people with disability through the Kerry Social Farming Project and hosted a hugely successful open day with 150 people last year. Lisa and Rena host a number of creative experiences and workshops in conjunction with the MOYA festival including ‘Art in Nature’ ‘Songs for the Spirit’ and ‘Living Lens’. In their respective studios, they create work that reflects their passion for food and their commitment to biodiversity and climate action. Lisa recently published her highly acclaimed new book ‘The Local Food Project’ about the power of eating local food to increase health and wellbeing; reduce plastic and carbon; and support local food producers.
