LB Rovers FC Soccer Academy is only in its third year of existence. It was set up in Sept 2012 by Eoin O’Mahony and the soccer academy has grown steadily over the years. He felt there was a need to provide a Soccer Academy in the Ballybunion and Lisselton areas. Last September a formal committee structure was put in place in order to help the academy to grow and develop. Since September 2015 there has been a huge growth in numbers attending the academy. There are coaching sessions on a weekly basis provided to children from the ages of 5 up to 12 years of age. There are over 80 children attending the academy on a regular basis. The coaching sessions are delivered by coaches who are Garda Vetted and have completed the required coaching courses. The academy also organises regular matches for all age groups from U7 up to U12. The numbers have been so strong that at U12 the academy has a team competing in the Kerry School Boys Division 3 League. The aims of the soccer academy are to provide an outlet for children who live in the locality to get physical exercise on a regular basis in a safe and friendly environment. It gives these kids an opportunity to learn new skills, gain new friendships and to get experience of playing for a team. These are all important as it will enable the child to develop and grow in a balanced manner.
