Killarney
Killarney Water Rescue, Search & Recovery Unit
Killarney Water Rescue, Search and Recovery Unit (herein referred to as KWR) was formed in the spring of 1995 following the tragic drowning of a local man. The incident highlighted the lack of local services with the necessary specialised expertise in Search, Rescue and Recovery techniques, nor the equipment to conduct such operations. The purpose of the organisation is to assist in the Search, Rescue, and Recovery of a person/s missing in (inshore or offshore) waters. KWR is a not-for-profit voluntary body funded entirely by the generosity of the public. The main objective is to give closure to the family by rescuing or recovering their loved one/s from the water in a dignified and professional manner. As KWR is a voluntary body all members (volunteers ) joining and assisting in searches do so at their own risk. By joining KWR the volunteer agrees that KWR and its officers will not be liable for any injuries, or losses incurred during training and/or operations. KWR volunteers will on occasion work in conjunction with other agencies such as; An Garda Siochana, Irish Coast Guard, Fire Brigade, Kerry Mountain Rescue, Civil Defence, other Search & Rescue Teams, and Irish Naval Services.
