Dear all,

Could I ask that you circulate this widely please specifically among ALL young people aged 15-24years. Listowel FRC need young people from all areas of Kerry to take part in Zoom consultations next Monday and Tuesday ev

LGBTQI… Where does the alphabet end?

What would you teach in a classroom if the topic was LGBTQI? What would you want to know if you were the student? Over the past number of years we have seen great progress in recognizing the rights of the LGBTQI community, however our understanding of this community and the people who identify with it is often lacking, as we tip-toe around language and terminologies within both the classroom and workplace settings. In continuing the path to change and fight for inclusivity, now is the time to address the questions that young people want answered about the LGBTQI community, creating inclusive classrooms that everyone can feel a part of.

Listowel Family Resource Centre is currently conducting an online research discussion via Zoom and is inviting members of the public, aged between 15-25, to contribute questions they would like answered or addressed in relation to LGBTQI. Participants must be living in Kerry and do not need to identify with the LGBTQI community to take part, this is all an inclusive discussion.

We are running three Zoom discussions to gather as much information as possible from participants. We have identified three themes for discussion – LGBTQI in secondary school, LGBTQI in sport/recreation & LGBTQI in employment. Participants may join one or all of the zoom discussions. Each one will last 45minutes and times/dates are outlined below. As a thank you for joining each participant will receive a coffee on the house at Maddens Coffeehouse on Milk Market Lane.

Mon 7th   6.30pm -7.15pm   –  LGBTQI in secondary School

Tues 8th   6.30pm- 7.15pm  – LGBTQI in Sport & Recreation

Tues 8th   7.45pm-8.30pm  –  LGBTQI in Employment

This project is funded by KETB and the zoom call will be delivered by Listowel Family Resource Centre, with external facilitator Rebekah Wall. Participants can choose to remain anonymous and each discussion will be monitored by a child protection officer. All information is confidential and is for the sole purpose of developing a programme that has been designed by young people for young people.

You can register to take part in any or all of the Zoom meetings by emailing jackie.landers@listowelfrc.ie
